U.S. retailers are expecting a profitable sales year in 2014 for electronics and online sales, despite a less than ideal holiday season according to a survey of 100 retail CFOs performed by BDO USA LLC.
Consumers continue to show favor to the convenience and perks of online retail. The online sales tactic that resulted in the most success was offering customer’s free shipping with online purchases. While email promotions yielded some success retailers are finding it harder to reach shoppers with email promotions because of the email filters that most email services provide. Social media promotions also provided results as the online trend among consumers continues to grow. 99 percent of retailers who use social media for marketing take advantage of Facebook to do so, making it the dominant social media platform for retailers. The survey showed that technology driven shoppers purchased more consumer electronics than any other product category.
