According to General Growth Properties, department store anchors are becoming less dependent for drawing in traffic and sales. This is occurring due to the in-line retailers attracting Millennials. Millennials spend a higher rate on retail compared to any other generational groups. As of June 2016, anchor sales decreased by 1.9 percent and in-line sales increased by 2.8 percent. General Growth Property’s second quarter report of 2016, saw restaurants, health care, personal care, and home furnishings as the best-performing tenant categories. This increase is due to Millennials seeking experiences over things. To find experiences their tendencies are to shop on a regular basis at regional centers which have made efforts to increase these.
