A “Green Standard” for the retail industry is slated to be rolled out next year by the International Council of Shopping Centers It will be called the “ICSC Property Efficiency Scorecard” and it will be used to bench mark and score the amount of “green” features that exist at a retail property. It will be unique to the retail industry.
Some of the items that will be scored are recycling, energy use and waste disposal to name a few. It is not meant to be a compliance or certification system but only to provide a competitive edge. It will be one more way a prospective Tenant will be able to weigh decisions regarding the type of retail location in which they will operate.
